HER Design, Trunkt
25.Jun.2005, 10:05 pmDelighting in barbeque, harboring an aversion to zoos, and forever frolicking with my favorite pets – pony-skin pumps, snaky clutches, and minks, oh my! – it’s plain to anyone:
I’m a real animal lover.
And though this affection for creatures crowds my heart, I make love-room for the plants too: the soybeans of non-dairy lattes, the pulp in designer stationery, and the cacao tree, without which cocoa-covered espresso beans wouldn’t exist.
So I worship a rather, um, synthetically-enhanced Mommy Nature.
Can I blame a plastic Los Angeles childhood?
So I’m atoning for my sin, enjoying HER Design handbags. Inspired by nature, organically and intelligently shaped, designer Helen E. Riegel – H-E-R, get it? – “set out to create handbags that are both funky and functional, but resolved to do this responsibly. That’s where the eco/animal-friendly fabrics come in,” says Helen. “The hemp canvas and Treetap that we featured for spring and summer are resilient yet refined materials that are also sustainably made. I don’t mean to come across as ‘crunchy’ on one hand or as an eco-snob on the other. I just understand the impact of manufacturing using leather and other skins, and seized an opportunity to try something different.”
And I’m seizing the opportunity to blossom with a HER organza bellflower evening bag.
Forgive me, but the bead-detailing looks really great with my suede pencil skirt.

Loves it, but there is no such word as ‘barbeque’.
That’s a colloquialisation derived form the shortened BBQ.
The word is barbecue.
