Mom pushed me to complete college, though I was itching to drop out of Brit lit discussions carrying the depth of the Los Angeles river–
But I finished early, while freelance writing full time.
Mom encouraged me do whatever made for me happy, sans weighing whatever others thunk–
So I skipped out of working nine to five, and invest my seven to eleven in home in my highest heels, cuddling with my MacBook, weaving words together about It bags and shoe hags.
Mom made sure she shut out “shut-up” from my vocab, and that I prefaced requests with “please”–
And since my talk is oft sprinkled with a dialect of a effin’ French particular to truck drivers, maybe I’ll gift the lady this Jessica Kagan Cushman bangle, which says a “please” prettier than even she taught me.
