Wanting.I just went to West Hollywood’s International Silks & Woolens fabric store. A windowless concrete cube on Beverly Blvd., walk in and you’re deep in a rainbow of silk linens, ultra-light cashmere, and vintage fabrics. The only thing better than their selection? Their service. Saleslady Connie helped me pick out an antique silk for a coat I’m having made. After she cut six yards, I changed my mind. She smiled and cut a half-the-price cotton for me instead… |

Using.Mood Designer Fabrics on Pico Blvd. is the left-coast twin of the fabric store featured in Project Runway. The selection’s fine, but the sales people are lazy, goosepimply combinations of six-year-plan fashion students and That Woman With The Cat, Who Knits. Where, oh where, do you go to get stuff custom-made.? I desperately want to try it, but friends have had bad experiences in the past and I want someone who’s actually, you know, good.
