Wanting
I didn’t see this Black Fleece shift dress at the Black Fleece boutique in New York, otherwise I would have put my Black Fleece knit suit back on the rack and found a matching jacket for this shift.
Made of pure camel hair in Italy, this Black Fleece dress is detailed with horn buttons on the back, and its straight skirt falls below the knee.
Ditch the obvious Hervé — it’s infinitely sexier to be so conservatively covered up in something the color of your skin…

The concept of Black Fleece is smart: Brooks Brothers gone bro. But a kitten-heeled, peep-toed spectator pump? I get the wit, but that heel is more dated, ironic or not…

Wearing

While I was in New York for a few days last week, I skipped through Bleecker and popped into Brooks Brother’s Black Fleece boutique. Half of the store was 60% off, including a gray knit blazer with sterling silver buttons that reminded me of an updated version of those vintage Chanel suits I’ve been hungry for. I had the jacket tailored on the spot, and it — and its matching gray knit, pleated skirt — are being shipped to me.
I’ll sport this Black Fleece knit blazer over one of my bajillion silk jersey tank dresses, or paired with its Black Fleece knit skirt, a custom white buttondown and my new Brian Atwood “Candy” slingbacks.
So the whole point of Black Fleece is mix-matching better-made Brooks Brother’s classics — I love having a solid suit…

So this Davines Defining Texturizer probably works as well as the Davines Love “Lovely Smoothing” shampoo I dig.
I’ll pick function over form any day, if you convinced me I had to, but most of the fun of Davines hair care is in their stripped down packaging…

Wanting

I’m waiting to finish my current conditioner so I can pair this tub of Davines Love “Lovely Smoothing” conditioner with my Davines Love “Lovely Smoothing” shampoo. I’ve picked up this Davines Love “Lovely Smoothing” conditioner at my salon out of curiosity: you can turn it upside-down, and the conditioner won’t budge.
It’s that gorgeously thick, so you can imagine what it’ll do to your hair.
But really, it’s all about getting that strangely luxe, so comfortably lab-like packaging into your shower…

Using

It’s the packaging of Davines shampoos and conditioners that got me — not that it was so glossy and gorgeous, but the opposite. More stripped down than Kiehls economical elegance, I liked the minimalism of the presentation, the way Davines shampoo bottles vibe borderline DIY. That work-in-progress feel of Davines bottles matches their values — shampoos and conditioners are engineered with natural, eco-friendly ingredients — but belies their history — Davines was born in 1982, in Parma, Italy.
Whatever the packaging’s roughness, Davines shampoo, “Love” Lovely Smoothing works way pro. I trim my bob every four weeks, but my hair was getting frizzy for some reason. I switched to Davines shampoo after reading Beauty Snob’s review, and my waves are bouncing back.
Which is nice — but just buy Davines shampoo because it looks good in your shower…

I’m over extra-padded, peepshow-style platforms. As much as I love a little Beyonce theater, real style is about choosing fashion that frames your beauty, not distracts from it. So I dig Brian Atwood “Candy” sandals — the shoe’s minimalist architecture isn’t about distracting glitz, but making your leg longer. You’ve got to have at least one heel high enough to style your leg a straight line from the tips of your toes to your thigh — that’s heaven.
3½” of stiletto won’t do that, though. Skip this version of Brian Atwood “Candy” sandals in black, and buy the taller Brian Atwood “Candy” sandal in white, for less dough. If five inches of pure stiletto sounds intimidating, buy the shoe anyway, and wear it around your room, without anyone or anything else…

Wanting + Wearing

I bought this Brian Atwood “Candy” slingback in black last week when I was in New York. I walked into Intermix in Soho sporting a pair of black patent Lerre sandals, peeptoe’d with a slingback, but walked out in these Brian Atwood “Candy” sandals. I hate owning two of a kind of anything — and I’ve also got a pair of black Givenchy slingback peeptoes — but these Brian Atwood sandals are more simply sophisticated, and that extra inch of heel stretches your legs another mile.
Now I want the white patent Brian Atwood “Candy” slingback. Five inches of pin-thin stiletto, strapped to your feet with two slivers of patent leather. It’s that architecture — and how it restructures your walk — that gets me…

For a matcha green tea soy latte a month ($4.99), 3jam will do half the work that Google Voice does for free. Try it if you’re worried about Big Brother Google knowing where you’re getting coffee, who you’re dating, and why you get V1AgRa spam, but using 3jam for privacy reasons is like moving into a gated community: you’re not really any more safe, comrade…
