Street Walk National eLetter

Not quite nepotism, I’m sure someone could call it some sort of “ism” — when meeting my friend Helen for soy lattes at a Hollywood bakery, I insisted she let me take a photo of her and her vintage bag from Paris. Still, it wasn’t the rosy glow of friendship that swayed me — with its slouchy, carryall shape, brass studs, and hardy distressed leather, this 70’s purse looks like the hip grandpa of a current It bag.
Not convinced? Check out Bulga’s latest.
See? I’m purely objective.
Though I think I’ll forward Helen this email and ask if I can borrow her purse.

Apparently my desperation to find a bag that matches every occasion and outfit — it’s a special purse made Not In Reality — peaked: on the last day of no-tax week and Labor Day weekend sales, I decided to zoo through Manhattan’s discount designer heaven, Century 21. Packed with crying strollers, tired salespeople, and bored boyfriends, in the middle of retail chaos stood a piece of street chic sanity. Shopper Yayoi was picking up interior decorating gear when her braided-leather flats caught my eye. The tassel detailing is what really makes the shoe, just as the tiny hearts and macrame make these.
Now if only I’d found as great a bag.
