Hating:
I’m a sucker for A-line silhouettes, but I’m not sure I’ve seen a worse way to blow $500 than this Black Fleece pleated dress.
Unless you gave a gay man $500 to tell you you’ve got a figure that should be hidden under a tent, you’re more a girl than a woman, and you’re bad with money.
Wait, same difference…

Wanting:
I saw this Black Fleece pointelle polo shirt in San Francisco’s Black Fleece boutique — it’s sheer and subtle S-E-X.
So what’s keeping me from buying it? I’m not sure what I’d wear it with, since I don’t sport pants.
I suppose I could wear this Black Fleece polo with just a pair of Giuseppes. Kristopher Dukes, Inc. has Half-Dressed Fridays at the office…

Wearing:
I didn’t mean to turn my back you on, darlings.
I took a vacay from blogging dilettantism to be an actual dilettante. But I’m back.
And I’m still stuck on my uniform of bespoke silk jersey tank dresses, but I figured I ought to own at least one dress that hits below the knees, and this Black Fleece gray shift dress was a steal on Gilt Groupe.
Plus, it’s because this Black Fleece gray shift dress covers you up completely that that button-down back looks like an invitation…

Wanting
I didn’t see this Black Fleece shift dress at the Black Fleece boutique in New York, otherwise I would have put my Black Fleece knit suit back on the rack and found a matching jacket for this shift.
Made of pure camel hair in Italy, this Black Fleece dress is detailed with horn buttons on the back, and its straight skirt falls below the knee.
Ditch the obvious Hervé — it’s infinitely sexier to be so conservatively covered up in something the color of your skin…

The concept of Black Fleece is smart: Brooks Brothers gone bro. But a kitten-heeled, peep-toed spectator pump? I get the wit, but that heel is more dated, ironic or not…

Wearing

While I was in New York for a few days last week, I skipped through Bleecker and popped into Brooks Brother’s Black Fleece boutique. Half of the store was 60% off, including a gray knit blazer with sterling silver buttons that reminded me of an updated version of those vintage Chanel suits I’ve been hungry for. I had the jacket tailored on the spot, and it — and its matching gray knit, pleated skirt — are being shipped to me.
I’ll sport this Black Fleece knit blazer over one of my bajillion silk jersey tank dresses, or paired with its Black Fleece knit skirt, a custom white buttondown and my new Brian Atwood “Candy” slingbacks.
So the whole point of Black Fleece is mix-matching better-made Brooks Brother’s classics — I love having a solid suit…
