Hermes reissued their Herbag a season or so ago, which bummed me out. Forgetting their form and function, I dig Hermes Herbags for their obscurity.
But I’m over feeling anything for the new Herbags. Their only improvement is an interior pocket. Other than that, the new Herbags are a downgrade from the original Herbags. The new Hermes Herbags have canvas that isn’t rubberized waterproof, come in Easter egg shades best left to baby Birkins, and their pieces aren’t interchangeable.
Though, granted, the sort of bottom-swapping freedom the original Hermes Herbag offered led to a few distasters like this…
Over the last couple of years I’ve edited my look down to a formula: bed-head, bobbed hair; a racerback tank dress; a shawl-neck wrap coat; stiletto slippers; and a vintage Hermes Herbag.
You can’t beat an Hermes Herbag. Equal parts form and function, its classic Kelly shape is formed out of bridle leather and rubberized canvas. I tote a 30 cm Hermes Herbag to dinner and park-play with my German Shepherd Major Dukes, and a 40cm Hermes Herbag travels with me on the flying bus.
Even better? Vintage Hermes Herbags disassemble into interchangeable parts. I have three Hermes Herbags, and I mix and match their bags and straps…
I bought my first Hermes Herbag assuming it’d be my private pleasure. The subtler sister of a conspicuous Kelly with high-karat hardware and hand-stitching, the discontinued Hermes Herbag is pieced together with raw-edged leather, stainless steel hardware, and a rubberized canvas body. An Hermes Herbag is so confidently careless, so immodestly modest, so subtly sexy. So choice.
And apparently old chicks on Rodeo Drive, Firkin pimps on Canal Street, and dudes that pronounce the “H” in Hermes agree: everyone digs my 40cm Herbag.
Naturally, I debated burning my Hermes Herbag or buying every Hermes Herbag in existence. I’ve decided the latter is more realistic, so I snapped up this Hermes 30cm Herbag in black…
