My mind’s diet of pre-1920s literature — excepting Gone with the Wind (1936) — keeps me flexible about social mores, making me rational enough that my sanity is occasionally questioned.
So New Age-y, alternative medicine interests me despite its mysticism — there are simply things science can’t yet quantify, that culture is philosophically opposed to and incentivized against.
Think instead of drugging away symptoms, holistic healing that treats your mind/body problems — perhaps thanks to “eight computer screens engaged in scalar wave-generating color and code conversations,” as in Beneveda Medical Group‘s Energy Enhancement room.
An hour in Beneveda’s Energy Enhancement room ($35 per) has been compared to a mini vacay, though the first few sessions may leave you with a detoxing, dehydrated body and a sore throat.
I felt the latter, along with the frequent urge to pee for a day. But Beneveda’s skeptical publicist that came with was surprised by feeling more zen than she has in years.
Was it just the power of suggestion?
My dear, I don’t give a damn — I’m going back to Beneveda for a naturopathic medical consultation…

I’ve met with nutritionist Rachel Beller of the Beller Nutritional Institute a few times to learn about food to fuel my brain. Rachel’ll offer you ideal eating habits, while being realistic about your lifestyle (e.g., that my stove’s ON switch seems connected to my smoke detector). Considering I once thought six soy lattes a day a decent diet, I’ll share who else digs Rachel: Glamour dubbed her their eating expert, Sheryl Crow credits Rachel for changing her view of food, and top MDs prescribe trips to the Beller Nutritional Institute.
But most importantly? Rachel has great hair and digs my Giuseppes…

Power Plates are amazing vibrators that get your entire body hot. Power Plates use whole body vibration to contract muscles 30-50 times per second. If you stand on the machine for 10 minutes a day, three times a week, you’ll improve bone density, increase your overall health, and lose weight. Because you’ll also become richer and younger and have a bigger penis, the machines sell for five figures. Check Craigslist to buy a used Power Plate for about $5,000… |

Power Plates are a luxury — not because of their price tag, but because of the time they’ll save you. Blue Clay Fitness gyms offer Plower Plate training, and you can get your first Power Plate training session for free. I just signed up for a free Power Plate session, so I can test one out. Find a Power Plate in your area… |

Power Plate my5 is chicked up, thanks to designer Kenzo Takada. Wince at the color, wince at the $2,000 premium. Let’s also stick a Hello Kitty decal on my Porsche and pretend that makes it faster… |
