Though Japanese longevity may be attributed to cultural customs such as smoking during meals, coining karōshi (過労死 or “death by overwork”), and replacing human intimacy with robots, some think the source of their health is downing large amounts of green tea.
Because of that, I’ve gone nutty for the Rolls Royce of green teas: Aoi Matcha Supreme.
Aoi matcha is made by grinding whole green tea leaves into a fine powder that’s the most alive shade of green.

Hating
I just wandered into Le Palais Gourmet tea boutique in Beverly Hills, between running errands (all of my body is serviced in Beverly Hills).
Le Palais is great, and restarted my matcha kick — they’re having a “Matcha Madness” month, with matcha everything 20% off, including matcha candies, the same matcha Japan’s imperial family drinks, and this Le Palais Gourmet matcha bowl.
It’s darling, but if you want to blow dough on an artisanal matcha bowl, get deep — check this antique chawan by Kenji Sakuma, who was born in 1907 as the son of second generation of Totaro Sakuma, a famed master potter…

Wanting
I’ve sworn off matcha green tea soy lattes — beyond being a waste of calories, the matcha green tea in the lattes isn’t the premium stuff packed with nutrients. Plus, I want to give up my Starbucks ritual in favor of an a.m. tea ceremony at home: whisking fresh matcha powder in a choice matcha bowl.
